Choosing a Commercial Lawn Mower

A commercial lawn mower has a number of differences from the typical homeowner model. If you're in the market for a commercial mower, whether you're a lawn care professional or just have bigger needs at home, there are several things you need to consider. Let's look at what you should know before making a decision.

Industrial Lawn Mowers

The first thing you'll want to check is whether or not the model you're considering is actually rated as a commercial mower by the manufacturer. If you buy a lawnmower and use it in a commercial setting, such as running your own lawn cutting business, most manufacturers won't cover any warranty issues unless the mower is actually rated for commercial use.

While some mowers that aren't technically commercial models are more than capable of handling this type of work, if your warranty is void because you're using it that way, it's not worth the gamble. Especially since using a mower in a commercial environment is going to put a lot more stress on it, and the chances of having a problem increase.

The next factor to consider is what kind of mower you need. If you're cutting large playing fields or that type of lawn, you'll likely be looking at a riding mower. Or possibly one of the new zero turn lawn mowers. But if you also cut smaller lawns, a riding mower isn't very efficient. You may need to buy two or more mowers in order to have a solution for any situation you might find yourself cutting in.

The third thing to consider when buying a commercial lawn mower is whether or not the manufacturer specializes in commercial mowers. If the brand you're considering makes two or three commercial models and a whole range of homeowner mowers, you might find that they don't have the same expertise as a company that makes a larger range or even specializes in commercial grade mowers.

Remember that you may not be looking at the same brands as you would for a home mower, so don't be put off by brands that you don't necessarily recognize. Do some research on the brand to find out how reliable they are, but don't move on just because you haven't heard of the brand before.
