Weed Eaters - What You Should Know Before Buying a Weed Eater

Before buying a weed eater learn the main differences between them so you can make an educated buying decision.

Industrial Lawn Mowers

Electric Weed Eaters vs. Gas Weed Eaters

Industrial Lawn Mowers

Before starting your search to find the perfect weed eater for your lawn care needs you will have to ask yourself a big question, "Gas or Electric?" Today a lot of power equipment comes in battery operated varieties so deciding on an electric over gas might make sense for you. As a general rule gas power weed wackers have more power to them, meaning they can handle areas with more and thicker weeds, while electric and battery operated weed eaters will loose momentum sooner and possibly will not be able of trimming larger yards with one battery. The key here is figuring out the size of your lawn and that might eliminate electric models right off the bat. For mid size and small yards an electric weed eater might be exactly what you are looking for. Electric weed wackers are typically weigh less than gas powered, and they are arguably easier to maintain, since you don't have to gas them up, or change out the oil.

Curved Shaft Weed Wackers vs. Straight Shaft Weed Wackers

Gas or battery operated weed eaters both come in straight shaft or curved shaft models. This means that either the base or shaft is straight throughout the length of the power tool, or curved at the bottom. The straight shaft models are typically used more by lawn care professionals and commercial landscaping companies. They tend to be able to reach more in hard to trim areas like under decks, near flower beds, along edges of the driveway and walkways, and also can be easily broken down and switched with other weed eater attachments such as leaf blowers, edger's, hedge trimmers, saws, pruners, etc.. The downside to the straight is the weight of them, and that is why the curved shaft models stepped into the arena. Curved shaft weed eaters are the trimmer of choice for homeowners because of the ergonomic design and light weight.

2 Stroke Engine vs. 4 Stroke Engines for Weed Eaters

Finally you will need to decide on the type of engine if you are going to go with a gas powered weed eater. Gas weed wackers come in either 2 cycle or 4 cycle engines. Synonymously know as 2 and 4 stroke engines. The biggest difference is the fuel type you will be using to start them, since for a 2 cycle weed eater the fuel will be a combination of oil and gas, where the 4 cycle weed eater takes only gas. 4 cycle weed eater are making a greater appearance in the outdoor power tool industry since they are known to be more environmentally friendly because they don't give off as much emission as the 2 stroke weed eater.

So there are the 3 main differences in weed wackers that you will need to know before buying one. Now its time to find the best deal (and I have heard the link below will get you the best bang for buck!)

What to Do When Your Lawn Mower Needs a Tune Up

A lawn mower is a heavily-used machine, so like all machines it needs a little tune-up now and then. By taking the time to tune up your lawn mower, you will keep it running in good working condition for a longer period of time, and thus will be able to save on its repair costs. You will also notice that the mower will run more smoothly and efficiently, so this will make the mowing job even easier than if you had to contend with a noisy sputtering machine.

Industrial Lawn Mowers

Thankfully, you do not have to tune up the machine every time you want to use it though. Just once a year is good enough, so it's usually recommended to do the tune up in spring when you first take it out for use during the season.

Industrial Lawn Mowers

Before you do anything, please remember to read your user manual first and take note of the safety precautions. Then before you take apart the mower, remove the spark plug first so that it cannot be started by accident.

The last thing you want is to have the sharp metal cutting blades start spinning wildly in front of you when you have your hands in the depths of the machine. This is an accident waiting to happen, so taking the precaution of removing the spark plug first will ensure you will have a safe tune up session.

Once you have removed the spark plug, the next thing to do is a general cleaning of the mower. Use a scrapper to remove any accumulated dirt or grass clippings from underneath the mower, and then check that all the holes, ducts and debris channels are not blocked.

If the blades are dull, this is a good time to have them sharpened. If you feel up to it, you can try sharpening the blades yourself, but you must be extra careful because the curved blades are harder to sharpen for the inexperienced. A safer way is to dismantle the blades and take them to a professional to be sharpened for the best results.

If you are sharpening the blades yourself, make sure they are replaced properly and the retaining screws or bolts are tightened securely. And if any of the blades is severely chipped or is showing signs of wear, you should replace it with a new blade for safety reasons.

Then check the engine belts to ensure they are still taut and not worn out. If any part of the belt is frayed, it's time to have the belt changed. Just get a replacement from your local retail store and follow the simple instructions to change the belt.

This is now a good time to change the engine oil. Again, it's a simple affair that goes a long way to help prolong the working life of the mower. Just make sure you dispose of the oil in an environmentally-friendly way. Do not just dump it into the nearest drain, but take it to your local car lubrication shop instead for proper disposal.

After that, check the air filter to see if it needs changing. If it's a paper filter, just swop out the old one and put in the new one. But if it's a foam filter, you will need to soak it with a few drops of engine oil first before installing it back into the mower.

Now the last thing is to put back the spark plug. But you should change the spark plug and put back a brand new one instead of the old one. This helps your engine run more smoothly and efficiently, thus reducing the amount of gas used.

Industrial Lawn Mowers

Expecting him to laugh at your outlandish request, you are surprised when the proprietor asks you to wait just a minute. He goes to his computer and, as promised, a minute later he returns and tells you, "No problem." How did he do it?

He simply went online and used a quick menu to find your model in the online catalog. You return to the shop with your mower. He locates the problem and makes another Toro mower parts lookup online. A few minutes later, he gives you an exact quote for the repairs, because the prices of the parts you need are right there on his computer screen.

You have another pleasant surprise ahead of you. When you ask him how long it is going to take to get the parts, he tells you, "a couple of days." He's not pulling your leg. He promises to have your lawn mower repairs finished by the following weekend and delivers on his promise.

This is an example of just how easy it is to locate and buy any mower replacement parts you need online. Whether you want parts for an old home mower or a commercial stand-on mower, you can easily find it. For that matter, you can get genuine snowblowers parts, weed eater replacement parts or any other parts you need online.

Commercial Lawn Mower For Private Use

It is common for homeowners to purchase a commercial lawn mower when they have a lot of property to cover. This type of lawn mower does not have to specifically be for commercial use. Having a large property, complicated landscape, or lots of hills are several good reasons to use a commercial grade mower.

Industrial Lawn Mowers

There are a few different types to choose from. The most common is a riding lawn mower, but there are some walk behind and stand on mowers as well. Some people prefer the zero turn lawn mower because it can get in between trees and bushes much easier. But, all in all, the power of a commercial lawn mower makes it ideal for most homeowners with large plots.

Industrial Lawn Mowers

Since they can be very expensive, it's advisable to search around for used riding mowers that are for sale. Sometimes you can buy used ones at a local shop. You can also check the newspaper listings and see if anyone in your area is selling one.

Before making a decision on which mower is right for you, you should do lots of research and read as many customer reviews as you can find. It's best to rely on information from consumers who have used the product than to buy in to all the sales pitches you'll get on any given product.

Reading reviews will also help you to think of issues that you may not have considered. For example, someone may be excited about how well their Snapper or John Deere mower handles hills, or how easy the parts are to attach. This could trigger you to think about how many hills your yard has and if hills are an issue for you. Reading reviews on attachments will also help you to think about situations you might need different attachments. If you think you will need them, you'll want to look into models that have affordable attachments that are easy to use.

Commercial Robot Mowers Unpacked

Domestic Robot Lawn mowers have been around for sometime now and are quite popular. A new breed of commercial grade robot lawn mowers is seeing the daylight. They are sturdier and cover more ground. Welcome to the world of commercial robot mowers!

Industrial Lawn Mowers

Laying out the basics

Industrial Lawn Mowers

BigMow and ParcMow robot lawn mowers are designed to cater large private property owners, golf practice range owners and other commercial facilities like office buildings. ParcMow and BigMow respectively cover up to 2.5 or 5 acres a unit without human intervention.

How do they work?

Robot mowers can either be manually activated or set on continuous mode for optimal performance. Once the mower gets tired, it will head back to its station for charging. The sonar equipped lawn mowers can sense obstacles and avoid collisions with their touch sensitive bumpers and movement sensors.

These commercial robot lawn mowers can handle slopes of up to 30% or 15 degrees.

Why would someone want a commercial robot mower?

No emissions-more and more people are concerned about the environment and carbon footprint. Once the grass clippings are reduced to fine particles, they break down on the soil thus improving fertility. Because you are a very busy person, and your time is better spent on things other than mowing the lawn. Robot lawn mowers are sleek and flashy. Your business, whether it's a golf facility or other, is concerned about return on investment and focuses on optimizing operations and employee fulfillment. Mixed with the BallPicker robot, golf facilities benefit of a very efficient system requiring very little human attention.
About the BigMow

The BigMow is 4' wide, 4.5' long and more or less 1.5' high. The mower weighs 65 kilos. The BigMow relies on 5 rotating heads each containing 3 blades covering a 3.5' wide strip. The cutting system can be adjusted to 12 preset positions varying from 22 millimeters to 95 millimeters in clearance (.087-3.7 inches). The BigMow's working speed is 3.6 km an hour, which is a little more than 2 mile/hr, and slows to 0.8 miles/hr when approaching obstacles to avoid impact. The BigMow robot lawn mower is propelled by 3 NiCd batteries capable of almost 2 hours of mowing time. IT only takes 1.5 hours before BigMow is charged up and back on track.
About the ParcMow

The ParMow is 3.7' wide, 3.7' long and more or less 1.8' high. This robot lawn mower weighs 36 kilos. The ParcMow relies on 3 rotating heads each containing 3 blades covering slightly more than a 2' wide strip. The cutting system can be adjusted to 6 preset positions varying from 22 millimetres to 65 millimetres in clearance (.087-2.5 inches). The ParcMow's working speed is 3 km/hr, which is a little more than 1.8 miles/hr, and slows to 0.6 miles/hr when approaching obstacles to avoid impact. The ParcMow robot lawn mower is powered by 2 NiCd batteries capable of providing a little more than 1 hour of mowing time. The mower only takes 1 hour to charge up and get back on track.

Ride on Lawn Mowers - Residential, Commercial Or Industrial

Ride on lawn mowers have been around for quite some time now. I can remember when I was just a little kid and we moved up from the suburbs to a new place that was on acreage. Being so young at the time, I think from memory I was about 10 years old seeing this big brand-new ride on lawnmower was so cool.

Industrial Lawn Mowers

Since that very day of having my first go on it I have never looked back. You know when you're living in the city and you have a small block there really is no need for such a big machine. But when you start moving into the country or you have a house with a large block of land with a bit of acreage, then you are definitely going to need to get yourself a ride on.

Industrial Lawn Mowers

So what do you get? There is quite a few different types or should we say styles of ride on mowers available in the marketplace today. The most basic and cheap ride on mower can be bought from such places as Wal-Mart or Bunnings. These machines are usually on the lower end of the quality scale and if you don't have very much grass to take care of these will hold out quite well. But on the other hand if you do have a fair bit more lawn to mow or if you need to do it every weekend you're going to need to get a better machine.

I guess the next step up from the residential machine would be to go into the commercial range equipment. Not only does the quality increase here but also the style of machine, you have more options.

So now you can start looking at what are called zero turn lawn mowers. These units are my personal favourite because they're fun to drive and they can really cut down the grass a lot quicker than your standard non-zero turn mower.

The main common one hear is the machine that has the two leavers that you hang on to so that you can steer the machine left or right. These are pretty much like army tank controls, or skid steer bobcat type controls.

To make the mower go forward you would push both sticks together at once forward. And then to make it go backwards you would pull them backwards together at the same time. Turning left or right means that you have to push one stick forward and one stick backwards.

These machines that I'm talking about now will usually have the cutting deck underneath your seat or out front underneath your feet. There will also only be two main driving wheels one on the left side and one on the right side.

There is another type of the zero turn mower that has a steering wheel, an example is one of the Cub Cadet machines.

These machines have the ability to mow a lot more grass per hour per acre than your standard ride on mower. The ability to turn so sharply means you don't have to keep going forwards, backwards, forwards, backwards to turn around a corner.

These things simply follow any contour around in the garden edging or around any tree, allowing for maximum cutting time or efficiency.

And finally after of the commercial range of lawnmowers you have the industrial range left. Here you step up again in quality features and comfort. Very large cutting widths are now available along with exceptional ground travel speed and cutting speed. The build quality of these units are the best of the best. They are literally designed to be run into the ground 24 hour per day. So if you need to mow full on each and every day for contracting or you own a national park these are the class of machine you need to look into.

There are so many different machines in the marketplace today, how are you going to know which one to get. Which models have larger cutting widths? Which machines can cut more grass per hour? Well you can take a look at this website ride on lawn mowers.

where we look at a whole range of different types of ride on mowers.

The adjustable hopper provides up to 12 cubic feet for waste and collapses flat for compact storage. A windscreen prevents wind gusts from blowing swept dirt and leaves back onto the ground. An upright handle on the sweeper allows users to dump contents from the tractor seat. The sweeper travels diverse terrains on two 11-by-2-1/2- semi-pneumatic tires. A hitch pin is included for quick tractor hook-up. The lawn sweeper only activates brushes while in forward movement and will not sweep while reversing. No tools are needed to assemble the sweeper for use. Manufactured in the USA, the sweeper may be covered under a limited one-year warranty. Upon shipping, the lawn sweeper measures 50-3/4 by 22 by 15 inches and weighs 77 pounds. --Jessica Reuling

Different Types of Lawn Mowers Explained

There are many different kinds of lawn mowers.

Industrial Lawn Mowers

Once you begin looking towards getting a new mower you will probably lookup some lawn mower reviews and very quickly discover that you've many options available to you, along with the specific type of lawn mower (for example cost, size, and the like). That said, it's fair to say that the type of mower you are considering purchasing is the primary factor involved. Cost, size, and everything else becomes unimportant if you start searching for commercial zero-turn mowers when you happen to just have a 20ft lawn.

Industrial Lawn Mowers

It is essential to undertake a brief analysis of the various sorts of lawn mowers and lawn tractors before you start checking through reviews, allowing you to grasp the basic facts surrounding them; like if, for example, the mower you are wanting to buy runs on a horizontal axis (known as a cylinder, or reel mower) or vertical axis (termed as a rotary mower). Just below are my different types of lawn mower reviews.

Reel/cylinder (horizontal axis) - Reel/cylinder mowers may be human-powered, but they are often joined together with an internal combustion engine.
As the most well liked commercial walk behind mowers (a lawn mower you push); the horizontal mower blade axis can make reel/cylinder mowers a superb all-rounder. They'd be of little use on commercial lawns, however for a small household lawn they are excellent.

Rotary (vertical axis) - Vertical rotary blades are incredibly powerful, and consequently typically they must be powered by an interior combustion engine. That said, electric rotary mowers have grown to be ever more common.

The primary down side to rotary mowers is because of the vertical axis they do not collect the grass cuttings. You will have to leave the cutting on the ground unless you wish to bag them to keep the newly cut lawn looking uncluttered.

Like with reel/cylinder mowers, the majority of these would be of very little use on commercial lawns, but for a compact home lawn they're ideal.

Hover - Hover mowers are energized rotary push lawn mowers that make use of a turbine engine over the rotating blades to force air down so to produce an air cushion, lifting the mower above the ground.

Hover mowers are excellent for massive commercial lawns, parks and fields, and even for excessive grass areas. They are also equipped excellently to cut things such as shrubs due to their ability to hover.

Ride-on (also known as riding, or lawn tractors) - These are typically really popular for substantial commercial lawns, school fields and parks. The person working with the mower can sit atop it, operating the mower and literally riding it.

Nearly all riding mowers use the horizontal (reel) rotating blade system, accompanied by a lot of blades.
